Zuidste Huisie \ Accommodation in Struisbaai

Zuidste Huisie Struisbaai

Zuidste Huisie is a self catering fisherman's cottage within the Langezandt Fisherman's Village Development in Struisbaai. The cottage, with a thatched roof, is built in the unique style of the original fisherman’s cottages of the area, sleeps six guests and is only 150 meters away from the beach across the boardwalk.

Self Catering Accommodation

The cottage is fully equipped for self catering with microwave, stove / oven, washing machine, tumble drier, dish washer and fridge / freezer. The kitchen flows onto an open plan dining and lounge area with TV and DSTV. The lounge dining area opens onto the entertainment area, covered pergola with built-in braai (barbeque). The cottage consists of three en-suite bedrooms with the room configuration as follows, two double bedroom (queen size beds), and one outside cottage with twin single beds.

location

Zuidste Huisie is walking distance from the Struisbaai harbour along the beach and only three minutes drive away from the most southern tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, a windswept and desolate stretch of coastline exemplified by the numerous shipwrecks dotted along the rugged coast. Officially the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, the waters off Cape Agulhas are known as the best fishing grounds in Southern Africa.

attractions and activities

The Langezandt Fisherman's Village is surrounded by vast blue oceans on the one side and unspoilt coastal-fynbos nature reserves on the other. The ideal overnight base for where you can explore the Overberg / Whale Coast, historical places or just a break away from the bustle of the city. On early morning walks during the months of June to December you may be greeted by the occasional southern right whale waving from beyond the breakers.

The region has an abundance of historical and natural wealth. Many visitors have been delighted by the beautifully preserved 19th century settlements at Elim, Arniston, Kassiesbaai and the picturesque fishermen's cottages at Hotagterklip - 'left, just behind the big rock' - adjacent to Langezandt.

Built in 1848, the beautiful old red and white lighthouse and is still operational today and is well worth a visit. There is also remains of ancient stone fish traps used by the Khoisan people, which were made by packing layers of rocks around shallower pools in which fish were then trapped and collected during the different tides.

Few pleasures can compare with early morning walks along a deserted beach, or a horseback ride down an unexplored and untrodden coastline. The water is crystal clear and its brilliant colour is exaggerated by the colourful boats which reside in the harbour. There is a lovely little seafood restaurant at the harbour where you can dine on some freshly caught fish whilst watching the picturesque scene of the locals bartering with fishermen for their daily catch. The Struisbaai harbour is often a good inspiration for artists and photographers.

One of the most interesting is the majestic Struisplaat, 24 kilometres of perfect, uninterrupted sandy beach - some say the longest in the Southern Hemisphere. The shoreline here is caressed by seas that are almost lukewarm in summer and endless it appears, because it stretches from the Zuidste Huisie Fishermen's Cottage all the way to Arniston.
