Underberg Guest House Tamboerskloof
The Underberg Guest House is considered the oldest guest house in Cape Town and was built in 1860 as a farm house when the slopes of Table Mountain still supported game, leopard and lynx. Lord Baden Powell and Rudyard Kipling often used to ride and walk in this area of Tamboerskloof. More recently it has been used as the production centre for the feature film “That English Woman”.

Tamboerskloof lies at the foot of Lions Head, and appears to lie in the arms of Table Mountain. It is one of the oldest residential suburbs in Cape Town, and a mere ten minute walk to the ever popular and trendy Kloof and Long Streets, where you will find restaurant, pubs, coffee shops, boutiques, antique stores, book shops and art galleries.
Large beautiful Victorian style homes lie side by side with art deco in an electric mix of architectural styles, along the wide tree lined streets. There are gorgeous views of Lions Head and Table Mountain. The City centre is accessible by foot as is the famous V&A Waterfront. Kirstenbosch Gardens and the beautiful beaches of Camps Bay are a short drive away. The beautiful winelands are a further 30 minutes away, as is the scenic drive out to the Cape Point.
