Peace of Eden \ Accommodation in Knysna

Peace of Eden offers eco country accommodation on the edge of the Knysna Forest. It is in the heart of the Garden Route, one of the most beautifully natural and safest regions in South Africa. A magical place where we hope to inspire you with our holistic vegetarian lifestyle living peacefully alongside nature.

We offer a variety of affordable self catering, B&B and Backpacker accommodation all sprinkled around shaded lawns and wild park like gardens. Explore our indigenous forest along winding pathways down to a babbling brook where you'll see giant tree ferns, ancient stinkwoods and yellowwood trees. Here chattering monkeys and the abundant bird life generously share secrets with all that pass by.

We are close to Knysna’s famous river estuary, lakes, beaches and forests. All the major attractions of the Garden Route are a mere one to one and a half hours drive away, and we are a perfect halfway stop from Cape Town enroute to Addo Elephant National Park and the Wild Coast. We are 6km’s from Knysna on the west side, and 8.2 km’s from the N2 along a picturesque country road leading to Rheenendal Village and the historical Millwood Forests.

ACCOMMODATION

We offer affordable accommodation, where the luxury is the peace, safety and abundant nature! All our units are simply and eclectically furnished with most things for a comfy stay. We have a variety of Cottages, rustic Barn Cabins, safari style forest tents, Traveller’s Lodge double rooms and eco camp sites.

WOODCUTTER Cottages

Meander along a pebble pathway through a copse of trees to Marimba & Djembe Woodcutter Cottages which are situated alongside each other. Ideal for two or a budget stay for three. Each has a double bedroom, bathroom, a kitchen galley, open plan lounge with a day bed, leading onto a timber deck with a rock fire pit on the lawn. Please note you may not park at these Cottages, the parking bay is a little walk away.

Djembe and Marimba cottages:
Sleeps 2-3. Djembe faces east, with sleepy sunrises and overlooks a small orchard and the forest, and Marimba faces west with stunning sunset views of fields and forest.

THE BARNS CABINS

A large rustic timber building draped with winding wisteria and brightly coloured bougainvillea. Converted into two cabins, with spacious lawns.

Sunbird Cabin:
Sleeps 2 – Sunbirds abound in the bottle brush tree’s that surround this little Barn Cabin. A double bedroom ensuite and open plan kitchenette / lounge leading onto a covered veranda. There are views of the forest and our two friendly horses grazing in the paddocks.

Peace Travellers Lodge:
Sleeps 8 - this personal small backpacker style Lodge has a twin and double room, and two dorm alcoves sleeping two each. It has a spacious communal living, dining, kitchen area, plus two bathrooms. A covered veranda for those lazy days leads onto lawns with a large rock fire pit, ideal for chats around a roaring fire.

Maluko Studio:
Sleeps 2-4 persons. A spacious studio style Cabin, with large open plan lounge, kitchen and bathroom with shower, a twin bedded bedroom alcove and a double bunk in the lounge. A cozy covered veranda that leads onto verdant lawns with small braai and views of the Outeniqua Mountains and an orchard of Macademia nut trees.

Bodhi Barn Cabin:
Sleeps 6-8 persons. This spacious cabin has two small bedrooms, a twin bedroom alcove with a screen plus a double bunk alcove, two bathrooms, large open plan kitchen, dining room, lounge with fireplace. There is a large covered veranda with glorious sunset views over fields and forest plus a large fire pit allows for great nights under a starry sky.

DOUBLE STOREY COTTAGE

Gwen's Glade Cottage:
Sleeps 2-4 - A cosy double storey cottage with an attic a bedroom upstairs plus a small twin bedroom alcove downstairs partly screened off, open plan kitchenette / lounge with a fireplace. There is a covered veranda with views of the shaded wild garden and lily pond.

FOREST SAFARI TENTS

Mystic Moon, Morning Star, Firefly and Deep Forest
Sleep in our magical forests surrounded by the sounds of the nature. Our 4 Safari style tents have electric lights and are on timber decks amongst the forest canopy. They sleeps two per tent and have double or twin beds, a small table and two chairs and a shelf unit. There are rustic communal ablution facilities, a gas heated bush shower and an eco ‘long drop’ loo, plus a well equipped kitchen hut with electricity.

Forest, field and garden camp sites:
Natural and eco, with no electricity at each camp sites. You are welcome to bring solar or gas lights – no generators or radios allowed! The sites are situated on lawned areas in a large field on the edge of the forest. There are rustic communal ablution facilities, a gas heated bush shower and an eco ‘long drop' loo, plus a well equipped kitchen hut with electricity (by December 2012 we will have four magical tent sites deeper in the forest).

ATTRACTIONS & ACTIVITIES

At Peace of Eden, you can pick veggies and herbs in our organic garden, book a healing massage, have a therapeutic breath session or do yoga on our forest platform. Explore our indigenous forest walks down to a magical little stream where you will see giant tree ferns, ancient stinkwoods and yellowwood trees and hear the wild sounds of nature. Canoe on a our lily pond, wonder at the amazing variety of birds and butterflies flying around, chat to the friendly horses that stroll in front of your cabins in the fields, or simply relax with a book on your deck and watch the emerald green Knysna Loerie fly by. We offer Vegetarian breakfasts and meals to order.

Peace of Eden is also available for weddings, retreats, workshops and private parties. We create a magical space with Bedouin stretch tents or a combination of tents, Bodhi barn Cabin or Chi House.

Within 10 minutes to one hour drive from us there is a myriad of adventure activities like forest mountain bike and hiking trails, horse rides, abseiling, kayaking, paragliding, sky diving, bungi jumping, Lagoon ferry rides plus the Knysna Elephant Park, Wolf Sanctuary, Birds of Eden and Monkeyland and much more ...
