Langvlei Dunes Accommodation Wilderness

Langvlei Dunes is situated just off the N2 between Wilderness and Sedgefield in the beautiful Garden Route on the Southern Coast of South Africa. The beaches, rivers and lakes that this area is renowned for, are just minutes away.

Self Catering Accommodation

The two unit self catering cottage is in a big indigenous garden, surrounded by fynbos. As it is a quiet, safe area it is the perfect base from which to explore the countryside or alternately, a place to relax at, enjoying the tranquil surroundings and the abundant birdlife.

Unit no 1:
A bedsitter (double bed) with a kitchen and a bathroom. It has its own deck with braai facilities.

Unit No 2:
Has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room with an open-plan kitchen, as well as a deck with braai facilities.

All linen and indoor towels are provided. Guests are also welcome to make use of the laundry room on the premises.

The one-hectare garden has had all the non-indigenous plants removed and is fast becoming a good example of what a natural fynbos garden can look like. There are a couple of resident tortoises and dozens of different birds nesting in the garden.

Wilderness

The quaint little village of Wilderness is just around the corner, and George, with a host of restaurants, malls and cinemas is about 20 minutes away.

Climate

Langvlei Dunes has a temperate climate with an average daily maximum temperature of 23C and minimum of 11C. It has an average rainfall of 715 m which is spread fairly evenly throughout the year.

BIRDING

Alan, who with his wife Marč, owns Langvlei Dunes Accommodation is a bird guide. This area has a species list of 262. A short half hour trip north over the Outeniqua Mountains takes you into the Little Karoo, and the much drier climate here means there are another 40 different species to be seen. One of the compelling reasons to visit the Southern Cape to bird is the high number of endemic species encountered here. Of the 300 species in the area 71 are endemic. This makes it a highly attractive birding destination.

FYNBOS

Within 15 minutes drive of Langvlei Dunes there are beautiful areas of Fynbos. Here one can experience the beauty and amazing diversity of the biggest floral kingdom on earth, from the tiniest Erica flowers to stunning Protea blooms. This is an experience not to be missed.

THINGS TO DO

The young and energetic, looking for action, can participate in any number of activities, such as surfing, walking, hang-gliding, canoeing, horse riding - the list is endless. The Cango Caves, Monkeyland and the Elephant Park are among the many attractions close by.
