Die Waenhuis Guest House \ Accommodation in George

Set in elegant Caledon Street under the shade of age-old oak trees in a landscaped park like garden, this historic 170-year-old residence awaits you to surprise and spoil you with its charm and relaxed hospitality. The magnificent lounge with original yellow wood floors and ceilings also features a Victorian fireplace where guests can gather around the fire on cool rainy days.

Accommodation

The original homestead offers seven cosy bedrooms, furnished in traditional style with antiques and period pieces in character with the house. Whereas the second adjacent house offers four more rooms with an earthy touch and opening to the pool area and garden.

All rooms differ in character and include heaters, underfloor heating, a fire place or air-conditioning, tea and coffee trays, a carafe of sherry, TV with MNet (DSTV in some) and WiFi.

Breakfast

Our luxury breakfasts are served in a sunny cheerful breakfast room with an old Dover stove and views of the lush garden or on the patio. It includes a full English breakfast as well as a buffet table with various fruits, yogurts, bread and pastries and cold meat and cheeses.

Location

Die Waenhuis Guest House is ideally situated in the heart of George for both corporate guests and tourists who visit the Garden Route, Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay and Knysna.

George also offers a lovely Botanical Garden, as well as forest and mountain hikes and a selection of some of the best golf courses in the country. The George Golf Course is very close by.

Conference Room

Our conference room and function venue can house up to 30 people and equipment for audiovisual presentations can be arranged. We also cater for teas, lunches and dinners for conferences and functions. The soft leather chairs, under floor heating or fire in the fireplace all ensure the great comfort of the venue.

Activities

Local tours, power van trips up the mountain, and the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train trips can all be arranged. Surfing, diving, fishing, paragliding and hang gliding are some other special attractions.

Your hosts are Johan and Madeleine Smuts and manager Izobelle Vermeulen. We live in a renovated railway shed adjacent to the guest house. As we also love traveling we shall gladly assist you with advice and bookings. With our personal and informal approach we wish your stay to be unforgettable, as one of our Irish guests remarked "this feels real".
