From Cape Town, take a leisurely drive along the N2, over the magnificent Sir Lowry's Pass, past the apple orchards of Grabouw and Elgin, and through the patchwork of Bredasdorp's wheatlands to Arniston, a fishing village two centuries old. Arniston is named after one of the many ships which got wrecked along this stretch of South African coastline, having become victims of 'The Cape of Storms'.

Accommodation

Close to the beaches are Arniston Seaside Cottages, a cluster of impressive luxury thatch roof cottages, emphasising the unique personality of Arniston itself. The Cottages can accommodate groups from a honeymoon couple to a party of 80. The cottages have quarry tile floors, reed ceilings and open log fireplaces.

The modern kitchens are fully equipped with everything from a microwave oven to a tin opener. The relaxed ambience is enhanced by cosy bedrooms and light and airy living areas, complimented with colourful Cape cane and pine furnishings. Some balconies have wonderful views of the sea and the surrounding dunes.

Activities

You can wander down to the slipway and bargain with local fishermen for fresh fish, or even catch your own Galjoen or Steenbras. Arniston is also known to some as Waenhuiskrans, the incredible tidal cave, chiselled by time and the sea out of the sand-stone cliff.

Just a stones throw away are rock-pools where you can gather your own oysters or other delectable shellfish. You can cook your catch over a braai in the privacy of your own thatched lapa. The cottages are serviced every day allowing you to relax and fit into the casual lifestyle of Arniston.
